Greetings,

is it possible to setup prosody with only public IP address, without having
a domain pointing to it? I tried to do so, but when I connect with pidgin
or gajim in debug mode I see error dnssrv: querying SRV record for X.X.X.X:
_xmpp-client._tcp.X.X.X.X where X.X.X.X is my public IP.

Regards

Prosody doesn't care what you call the VirtualHost, but it can't
federate with such servers.

Generally it'll be better to have an actual domain. Sometimes IP
addresses change, and renaming servers in XMPP is not easy.

This is probably a client bug. It might work better if you use the
hostname/port override settings.

Hope that helps,
